Be Your Own Valentine

Self-love and self-care are hot phrases in the social media space these days. But, what do they actually mean? Do they mean going through the drive-thrus and having drinks with your best gal pals at the end of a stressful week because, #treatyoself? Or maybe its that mani/pedi and massage type day you have been waiting for? Nah. Those are like putting a band-aid over a splinter when you should just take the damn splinter out.
Nutrition is not only what we eat but, it is also what we think, say, and feel about ourselves, our body and how we view and react to situations. Think about someone you love. What would you do for that person to show them they are loved? How about things that you would say? Why is that concept so hard when you are talking to ourselves? Why is it so hard to look in the mirror and be okay with what we see? Or why is it so easy to put ourselves down? If a friend was going through a crisis and asked for your help, what would you tell them? You should talk to yourself like you are talking to a loved one or a friend.
Practice self-love and self-care by treating yourself with respect. When you notice yourself getting burned out, don't be afraid to walk away and take a break. Be compassionate toward yourself and honor where you are in each moment. Have awareness and be mindful with your decisions. Don't be afraid to ask for help to relieve some pressure and remember that there are people out there who would love to help you. Feel and embrace your feelings instead of pushing them down into a deep dark hole. Let go of what you cant control and stop trying to please people who couldn't give two fucks about you. Trying to be perfect is exhausting. Don't be afraid to say NO and don't be afraid to say YES.
We are what we continuously tell ourselves. What have you told or done for yourself lately?
